Mandatory Requirements
There are three abolute requirments that must be met to be selected as a UMB Scholar:
- You must be an undergraduate majoring in either biology, mathematics or statistics.
- You must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its posessions.
- Additionally, you can not be supported by any other federally supported development program. Federal Regulations strictly prohibit students from receiving financial support from two government funded programs at the same time ("double dipping"). Students currently supported by the MARC, RISE, or similar federal programs, must resign from such programs if they wish to receive stipend support.
Additional Requirements
There are several additonal requirments that should be met to be selected as a UMB Scholar:
- You have just started your sophomore year (i.e. completed 30 hrs of coursework)
- You have taken the introductory biology series (Biology 1 and Biology 2) and earned a grade of "B" or better.
- You have taken the introductory math series Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 and earned a grade of B or better.
In rare instances, one (or more) of the Additional Requirements might be waived if the applicant shows unusal promise as a potential UMB Scholar.
